Gemini Twins
Gemini Twins
Gemini is a sign of duality, the eternal dance between two sides of the same self. This painting was created for my daughter, who embodies both of these energies. She’s bold and fiery, yet also deep and moody. Fire and Ice.
The two figures stand back to back, reflecting the opposing yet connected forces that live within her. One with golden hair illuminated by a glowing sun, radiating warmth and energy. The other with cascading silver hair, cool and ethereal, touched by the glow of the moon. Together, they form a balance, each one defined by the presence of the other.
I painted this on top of an unfinished painting that had depicted her as a little girl sitting in a tree. I had started it years ago, but finishing it never called to me. The layers of paint add texture and depth. A new idea built on a memory.
The background carries its own memory. A dark, twisting cherry tree arcs through the canvas, an echo of a mural I had painted in her childhood bedroom. Back then, the tree represented whimsy and growth. Here, it bends and curves with age, a reminder that growth takes many forms and that beauty can also live in shadow. Blossoms scatter through the branches, soft pink against the darker tones, carrying a sense of fleeting wonder.
This piece is about the harmony of contradictions. Two things can be true at the same time. Light and shadow can only exist together. It’s about being more than one thing at once, and embracing the complexity that makes us whole.
